Happy Cow Appreciation Day

July 16, 2015

16 Jul

There had been some discussion on exactly which day was cow appreciation day. The same talk was still circulating this year, so it’s time we set the record straight. Guess what? It’s EVERYDAY! That’s right, every day we appreciate and care for our hard working Ladies that produce nutritious milk. Without milk there would be […]

Lessons Taught by Cows

June 29, 2015

29 Jun

I struggled to pick a topic to write for this guest blog post. There are so many different directions I could go, being a wife, mother and dairy farmer. A friend asked me, “What do you want people to know about dairy farming?” I want people to know that while dairy farming is a business, […]

Hypothetical Kids

June 22, 2015

22 Jun

When Kris and I were deciding to buy the farm, we didn’t have any kids yet, but we did have a list of reasons why we wanted to raise our hypothetical kids on a farm. We were both raised on dairy farms, and we wanted that same kind of upbringing for our kids. We wanted […]

Moms Just Ask for Help

June 17, 2015

17 Jun

Darleen was looking for a story about lessons learned being a mom and a dairy farmer. Immediately this exchange with a friend of mine came to mind. First of all, I think the most important message below is to reach out and ask for insight from the moms around you! I was so proud of […]

How Do You Keep Farm Kids Clean?

June 8, 2015

8 Jun

When I met farmer, I was a single mother. I had a beautiful little blonde haired girl that was (still is) the center of my world. When we started dating, I remember taking “special” clothes for her to play in at the farm. I washed her hands constantly and she took a bath more than […]

Dairy Farmers visit the Capital

March 15, 2015

15 Mar

Democracy only succeeds with engaged citizens. I’m excited to have begun my journey with the Oregon Young Dairy Leaders class of 2015/16. The first session certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone as we headed to Oregons Captial. We spent the day behind the scenes and met with 12 representatives. Truly interesting to see […]

February 13, 2015

13 Feb

My favorite day of the year has arrived! And a whole month earlier than last year. Today we let the Ladies back out onto the pasture! It is always so much fun to watch them return back outside to the lush green grass. After a little bit of fun and kicking up their heels they […]

When I throw the word robot out there, dairy farm probably doesn’t come to mind first. But that is exactly what I am talking about, robotic milking on the dairy farm. We are excited to be launching into the adventure of transitioning our farm to robotic milking. After much discussion we felt it fit our […]

2014 Year End Review: Farm

December 31, 2014

31 Dec

After I highlighted my efforts in agvocacy in 2014 I thought it would be fun to take a look at what happened on our farm this year! The biggest change for 2014 was the number of cows in our herd. For the second time ever and in the last two years we opened our closed […]

Another small group of heifer calves to register that are looking for their names. Must be the year of the bulls, and out of the ordinary we have one bull for you to name this round. Reminder that the first letter must match the mother’s names below. For the bull first letter much match and preferably end in Man. For example this family has already had a Lawman and other bull names over the years include - Mountianman, Fireman, Jaeger, VIP, Sergeant, Verdict, Monument, Sputnik. So give me your best for: SplurgeLocoGinaLoretta (needs a name beginning with G)LuluMae - Bull ... See MoreSee Less
