It appears there is a national day for everything, even farmers. So today we celebrate National Farmer’s Day.
Yesterday as I walked through the grocery store I was honestly in awe of the fact that all that selection is made possible by a farmer somewhere. It really blows my mind when I realize that we are just 2% of the population responsible for feeding the rest. It makes me feel deeply humbled and honored to be included in those numbers. And providing dairy products is something I feel a great sense of pride in!
But more then that as I walked through the grocery store, I felt connected not only to the other farmers who join me in helping to feed our population. But my fellow consumers. I may be a farmer, but I am also exactly like every other person in that grocery store looking to put a meal on my family’s table.
I’m a wife to my high school sweet heart. Building a life together that just happens to center around our farm and the incredible blessing that he loves these brown and white bovines just as much as I do! We’ve been through our fair share of trials and face them side by side. We’ve grown together in immeasurable ways, but find laughter to be the glue that keeps us together.
I’m a mama to two amazing boys. They make this life a whole lot of crazy and loud. But their enthusiasm, their pure love of life makes me want to be the best I can be for them. And honestly I feel like I fail at that daily. Motherhood is a roller coaster of emotions, navigating the greatest losses through miscarriage and still having the privilege of overwhelming blessings. Being called a Mama is not a title I take lightly and yet it brings so much light into my life.
My vocabulary probably contains a few too many choice words. I like my drinks a little too strong. And think coffee is the sweet nectar of my morning routine. When I can find free time (which let me just say I am a horrible time manager, hello distractions!) I’ve got my nose in a book or writing to a pen pal from around the world. Those explorations ease the wants of my wanderlust heart. The world is so big and there is so much to explore. I’m a hot mess, literally, figuratively, all the way around. Farm hair don’t care is my truest fashion sense and I am glad the Ladies don’t judge.
I’m a farmer.
But I’m a person just like you, enjoying this crazy journey we call life.
