Show Kindness

I’ve been a little quiet lately. Besides being crazy busy with start up, (which is going great and I promise an update soon!) I’ve been avoiding social media. So I’m just going to leave this simple reminder here. Be the change you want to see. Not quite sure how to start? Start simple…….show kindness! The […]

First Week in the Barn

The Ladies have now spent their first week in the barn! Luckily the transition has gone really well and we are looking forward to starting milking this week. We have been moving them up to the new barn after morning milking and letting them stay all day until it’s time to bring them back down […]

2016 Year End Review: Agvocacy

All of last years planning and hard work at least has something to show for in 2016. The big news of course for this year is breaking ground and building our new robotic milking facility. I will be honest I had fully expected to be ending this year as a robot dairy farmer. There’s no […]

2016 Year End Review: Agvocacy

Show of hands, who is just plain ready to be done with 2016? Yea me too! Last year I predicted that 2016 would be a whirlwind, and that was a complete understatement. Just like the year before, I have this theme of wondering where the time goes, every year. This year is no exception in […]

Monthly Barn Report: December

Here we find ourselves at the end of 2016 with Monthly Barn Report: December. I’ll be honest at the beginning of this year there was no way I would have imaged we wouldn’t be robot farmers by the end of this year. Somehow the year just flew by. Big projects have a way of testing […]

Monthly Barn Report: November

Monthly Barn Report: November is brought to you by some much needed sunshine and a little relief from the rain. In that the rainfall was at a normal level compared to October! With clear skies the temperatures dropped and you could really tell that fall was ending. Not that we ever get really cold in […]

Monthly Barn Report: October

Monthly Barn Report: October starts with very good news as our electrical plan was approved by the power company! Wasting no time we dug the trench that day and got the conduit laid and wire ran. That was such a relief. Still no power, but very nice to finally be moving forward with the process! […]

Monthly Barn Report: September

Here comes the 5th Monthly Barn Report: September. At this point we were wondering how in the world it was already September! Throw in a construction project to daily dairy farm life and the days seem to just disappear in minutes. By the first of September it was thankfully still dry (notice no mud!) and […]

Always the real reel here. Feels hard to compete w Always the real reel here. Feels hard to compete with ai when the real reel is often not picture perfect. But that’s life with all its messy bits and pieces. So it will always be my real words here and the Ladies of this messy beautiful life.
This right here, the beautiful things. That’s why This right here, the beautiful things. That’s why we’ve fought so hard to hold onto this way of life. I truly wish it didn’t have to be so hard. Farmers aren’t in this way of life to get rich, but we certainly hate struggling even to make ends come close to meeting for our families. Not going to lie I’ve held onto to some guilt that we had a way out and can see a future for our farm again. So many wonderful farm families don’t have that choice. Breathing in the beautiful, letting go of the past and looking forward to bringing you more of our farm story in this crazy world of social media.
I’ve been quiet in this space. Mostly cause I coul I’ve been quiet in this space. Mostly cause I couldn’t find the words to describe the literal disaster strong holding dairy farm families in the Pacific Northwest. It’s gut wrenchingly heartbreaking. We went through the tough conversations of how we survive as a dairy farm. Because this right here, these generations of dedication to a breed and land. We couldn’t let go of. Dairy farming is in my blood, heart and soul and there were no answers of what else to do. So we made a choice and are now 10 months into being a certified organic farm and selling our milk to @organicvalley As a small family farm we finally feel like our farm has a chance at real future again.
When you’ve had the warmest January ever on record When you’ve had the warmest January ever on record and the grass starts growing…you turn the milk cows out to pasture! Looking like this dry spell should hold and they’ll get to enjoy some days on grass in the sunshine. Now we just wait to see if Winter ever does decide to show up!
