May 30, 2014

30 May

FarmHer Dilemma #16: Clean clothes are an invitation for “accidents” to happen. Fairly certain the Ladies view them like a empty canvas. Behold and enjoy the art! The work of Picasso, truly!

Northwest Farmers Fighting Hunger

May 29, 2014

29 May

Today is not a Wordless Wednesday! Lately all the posts and conversations I have seen about food, seem to be GMO related. That topic can get everyone on every side very riled up and passionate. I am not advocating for either side, but simply asking you to put that passion somewhere it can be put […]

Living the Present

January 16, 2014

16 Jan

In October I won the ticket lottery to attend a Jack Johnson concert. He is my absolute favorite and I never win anything, so I was beyond ecstatic. Me and three close friends shared the tickets, and embarked on a fun filled night in the big city (I don’t get out much!)   After a […]

Merry Christmas!

December 28, 2013

28 Dec

Sometimes your heart is so full it’s hard to put into words how you are feeling. This year I am feeling overly blessed! Sometimes it’s so easy to look at all the hard and difficult, stressful and consuming things in your life and lose sight of what really matters. When you let go of all […]

FarmHer Dilemmas

December 18, 2013

18 Dec

This morning I felt like I waddled through morning chores 38 weeks pregnant, and the real eye opener came when I realized I couldn’t squeeze through the people walk way in the parlor. Yes it was comical, luckily I didn’t get stuck! 😉 I realized that we as women face numerous “dilemmas” as farmers, things […]

A Year of….

December 11, 2013

11 Dec

Another year……another year flown by……at pretty much the speed of light!!! A year whose theme should simply be: behind Ok please tell me I’m not the only one sitting here wondering how in the world it’s only 15 days till Christmas! While I could blame my behindness on  many things, I mainly think it’s just […]

I am seriously blown away by the response and support for my last post! To watch my tiny blog, and one little post reach over 15,000 people and growing in the last 48 hours seriously blows my mind. That’s half again more people then live in my little home town! But more than that I […]

Christmas in the Country!

November 27, 2013

27 Nov

I am so excited to be joining CountryLinked and ThisUnchartedRhoade for Christmas in the Country! They came up with such a fun idea!  Really looking forward to a wonderful event with fellow “aggie bloggers’!  I feel like my Holiday spirit (how in the world is Thanksgiving already here?!?) has totally been lacking all year […]

A Two and a Half Year Old!

October 31, 2013

31 Oct

I know, I know I was promising some awesome farmie posts, but pregnancy hormones have been demanding nesting and reflection. I think every Mom has a little spell when they are getting ready for their second child that they really take a look at their first born. I will be honest that I am having […]

Dairy Farmer, Wife, Mama; I am passionate about my lifestyle and Guernsey Ladies.

Classification day for the Guernseys. Looking at e Classification day for the Guernseys. Looking at each cow individually her type (body) is evaluated. There are functional assets to how a cow is put together leading to a more productive animal. It also gives us important genetic information on how daughters of each bull are turning out. It’s an important day for registered herds. And just fun to have another set of eyes on the Ladies pointing out flaws and strengths.
…..We let the cows out to pasture! …..We let the cows out to pasture!
It looks and feel like Spring here. So guess what It looks and feel like Spring here. So guess what that means we did……?
Being at the mercy of Mother Nature is one of the Being at the mercy of Mother Nature is one of the hardest parts of farming. I’ve watched with almost envy as other parts of the nation flood with more rain than they can handle. While drought strikes and the west burns and we wish for any amount of rainfall. If only there was a way to balance it all get and give each region exactly what they need. But that is certainly not how Mother Nature, or life for that matter works. So we rejoice with our first recordable rainfall in months. With hope for what it can do for our parched pastures.
Bedtime rumble in the pasture. There is a definite Bedtime rumble in the pasture. There is a definite herd hierarchy with the Ladies. It’s fun to watch their personalities come out in different situations. The pasture is usually just for fun, but don’t put it past one of the older ladies like Farrah here to put anyone in their place.
Seriously can’t get over the incredible views we Seriously can’t get over the incredible views we had of the Northern Lights last night. We never see them in Oregon so this was a special treat! Even turned off the barn lights after this and headed out into the pasture to get an amazing view.

We’ve got another group of calves it’s time to register and give them their official names. Reminder of how this works. The first letter must match from the Mothers name below. For example Myrtle hails from our floral M family with Magnolia, Marigold, Mistletoe and Mallow currently in the herd (so break out your botanical knowledge!) Give me your best suggestions for: Gorgeous LotusSplendorCharlotteMyrtleCiaraJaydaRerunBabble ... See MoreSee Less

I know I’ve been pretty quiet in this space lately. But my favorite consequence of being in this social media space is the amazing people it’s connected me to like Cody from Foggy Bottoms Boys. A whirlwind spring break combo work trip landed us at their farm and then to @Jerseyscoops for some seriously delicious ice cream. These guys are doing amazing things and it’s so exciting to see their success. ... See MoreSee Less
